FY 2005 Conservation Security Program
The watershed contains 3,780 farms and lies
solely within in Oklahoma in the wheat-belt region of the state. Major
agriculture enterprises include hard red winter wheat production, livestock
grazing on native range, introduced forages and small grains, and localized
areas of dairy and swine production. Cropland conservation practices
include reduced tillage and no-till, terraces, grassed waterways and grade
stabilization control on gullies. Grazing land practices include prescribed
grazing, water development, cross fencing, pasture fertilization, brush
management, and pest management for weeds. In addition, wildlife interests
(primarily quail, deer and turkey) are growing as a secondary enterprise to
the livestock grazing operation. There is an active upstream flood control
project within the watershed, as well as historic delivery of conservation
programs to address significant natural resource issues within the
watershed.
