Oklahoma Grazing Lands Conservation Association Announces Dollar$ and Sense

Stillwater, Oklahoma June 2, 2006 — The Oklahoma Grazing Lands Conservation
Association (OGLCA) will host its Fifth Annual Grazing Lands Dollar$ and Sense
Conference August 11-12, 2006, at the Biltmore Hotel, in Oklahoma City.
Registration deadline is August 5, 2006. Registration is $100 per person, and
includes attendance to all sessions, lunches both days, and a copy of the
proceedings.
“This year’s conference will feature speakers talking about what it takes to
develop a grassfed system of producing livestock,” said Kim Barker, OGLCA Chair
and Waynoka, Oklahoma rancher.
Experts will share information on genetics, forage systems, marketing and
grazing management. Speakers include Gerald Frey, Bovine Engineering and
Consulting, Rosebud, Arkansas, speaking about “Genetics, Cattle and Quality Meat
- Building the Grassfed Animal”. Bryan Northup and Bill Phillips, Grazinglands
Research Laboratory, El Reno, discussing development of a year round forage
system in Oklahoma, and grass finished beef. Teddy Gentry, Bent Tree Farms, will
talk about genetic traits of grassfed beef; and Jon Taggert, Burgundy Beef in
Texas, speaking about production and marketing of grassfed beef. Other topics
will include grazing management strategies for grasssfed livestock, labeling
laws, and the role of the dung beetle in grazing systems.
There will be a producer panel sharing their experiences with raising grassfed
beef and lambs and a roundtable discussion with all speakers on the final day.
According to Barker, “This will provide a great opportunity for participants to
ask questions and learn from people with a lot of knowledge and experiences.”
